Mark “The Dominator” de Mori,(11-1-2(10ko’s), 25, has signed a three year deal with world renowned heavyweight promoter Don King.
Based in his home town of Perth for the last two years, de Mori has been working hard with trainer Ron Par and manager Ted Allen on the deal which will see de Mori promoted in the USA.
“Thanks to sponsorship I have been able to train full time this year, not long ago my brother Eric and I were training our selves and you can only go so far doing that , I have also added a strength and conditioning coach to get me in proper shape, I now feel ready to make my move, the style I was fighting early in my career did not make for a long career but now through repetition in training and drastically improved stamina, I know I can go somewhere, I am looking forward to the hard fights ahead as I now feel confident in my ability and preparation.”
“Don King Promotions cited de Mori’s youth and exciting style as keys to being able to market him to the US audience.” Said manager Ted Allen.
The young heavyweight will likely make his US debut in the next three months.
“I’m excited and ready to step up and find out what the next level is about, it’s always been my dream to be a TV fighter in the USA, like Tommy Morrison or Arturo Gatti. I now have the perfect platform to achieve that dream.”
De Mori stops Fijian Champ
Last Saturday night local Perth heavyweight prospect Mark "The Dominator" de Mori (11-1-2(10ko's), overcame his most experienced foe to force the retirement of Fijian Heavyweight Champion Mosese Kavika (16-14-2(10ko's).
Held at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Perth on March 24, the 111 kg Kavika was brought to Perth as a test for the relatively inexperienced de Mori who was fighting in his first 10 round bout. Kavika has fought notable opponents such as former world title challengers Kali Meehan and Peter Okhello, as well as Aussie 'Big' Bob Mirovic, Kavika was expected to test de Mori who was fighting in his first scheduled 10 round bout.
The fight was fought at a measured pace early as both men appeared to have the power to finish the other with any power punch thrown. Wild swings from Kavika signalled his intentions for an early knockout, as de Mori was content to take his time and use the full 10 rounds to his advantage.
As early as the first round, Kavika seemed unwilling to trade in close with the powerful de Mori, constantly clinching much to the frustration of de Mori and the fans. In the second, Kavika lost a point for holding, and it appeared he was losing confidence as de Mori started to methodically work the body shots in.
Towards the end of the third, in yet another clinch, de Mori managed to land a clean right hook which hurt Kavika. In pain and having thrown everything he had, Kavika went back to his corner he signalled to his trainers he wanted to quit and the fight was waved off at the end of the third round.
Afterwards, a frustrated de Mori said 'I cant believe it ended like that, we brought Kavika here to test me but all he wanted to do is clinch and then quit. I can't help it if my opponent didn't want to fight, I never left first gear and I'm disappointed for the boxing fans and myself that Kavika would choose to quit."
The night was sponsored by local property developer Neil Duckworth, owner of Sunset Group Developments, who is now backing de Mori, along with Alan Burns of Sydney who has been with mark for two years now.

Video is on! The fight from the 2004 in Gold Coast.
Heavyweight Mark de Mori (10 -1-2,9Ko) once again proved his popularity, this time pulling a huge crowd for his first ever pro fight in his hometown of Perth. The rafters were shaking with chants of 'de Mori' as he came out to face 'The Honeyboy' Fijian Fatu Tui Tuimanono (7-7-1, 6Ko).
In the first round de Mori used his jab well to push Tuimanono back against the ropes, unloading with body shots and hooks. The Fijian's best work came in close when the fighters were clinching, however 'The Honeyboy' never really looked like having the sting to keep de Mori off. The end came at 1:53 in the second round when a right hook and left hook combination by de Mori dropped Tuimanono for the count, and in the process opened a large cut over his right eye.
In the other boxing fight for the night, Daniel 'The Rock' Dawson (25-17Kos) kept his unblemished record in tact with a clinical dismantlement of Fijian Taniela Vatunicoko (0-1). Dawson was overshooting with a lead left hook in the first round, however he lowered his shots to punch at the chest in the second round and dropped Vatunicoko for the count with a crisp left rip.
Heavyweight slugfest on Friday night!
In a bruising heavyweight slugfest on Friday night, Mark de Mori (9-1-2) 105.5kg seemed unlucky to draw with Elisara Sii Uta (8-6-1) 109.5kg after six action packed rounds that saw Sii Uta on the canvas in round four after a powerfull right hand from de Mori.
The fight was held at the A.B.A Stadium in Auckland and had the capacity crowd on their feet as both men traded bombs for six rounds.
Sii Uta, who holds a win over highly regarded American heavyweight Chauncy Welliver, lived up to his reputation as the heavyweight hardman by absorbing many power shots through the bout.
De Mori was in New Zealand for three weeks as a sparring partner for IBF Australasian heavyweight champion Shane Cameron.
' I thought I won but it was tough and you never know which way the judges will go in boxing, all I can do is get back in the gym and prepare for my next fight. The sparring with Cameron had me in great shape.'
De Mori KO’s cage fighter!

Mark “The Dominator” de Mori (9-1-1 8KO’s) won his most recent International fight on May 27 in KeriKeri New Zealand by stopping his opponent John Parai in the second round.
De Mori dropped Parai, an experienced cage fighter and mixed martial artist, at the end of the first round with a counter left hook that left his opponent groggy for the opening of the second stanza.
“When I knew I could hurt him I came out in the second round with a lot more purpose, and it was a combination of body shots and hooks that did the job” stated de Mori.
